Sandpit #8: The ICA

Sandpit #8 took place at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts on the 18th of February 2009. Scheduled games ran from 7pm to 10pm, with unscheduled Pick Up and Play games, and reruns of the scheduled games, extending into the night.

The event ran as part of the Feedback Season, with conspiracy, sneakery, secret information, surveillance and journalism all up for play.

Free London’s Monsters

Explore the area around the ICA, and help to map the local monsters. From Andrew Wilson.

Pulgar Libre

An intensive knockout tournament for elaborately costumed Mexican thumb wrestlers. From Arma Blanca and Hijo de Fruta.

From 7pm. Unlimited players.

Earpiece

Form groups of three, and follow mysterious mp3 instructions to see what happens next…

From 7pm. 3 players at a time.

Privacy is Dead

Can the people that hold your data really be trusted? Find out in this game of personal secrets and traded intelligence.

7pm. 12 players.

Press Gang

media conference has been called by a VIP in response to a barrage of unfounded allegations from the gutter press — which is to say, you. From Halal Kebab Hut.

7:30pm. 16 players.

Paparazzi

Stalk celebrities through the city streets, and try to catch them indulging their terrible secrets. Don’t worry, it’s all in the public interest - but bring a camera if you want to play! From Kevan Davis.

8:00pm. 30 players.

Semaphoria

A game of puzzle-solving, deduction, flags and following the leader. From Holly Gramazio.

9:00pm. 30 players.

Social Games

Plus the usual assortment of pick-up-and-play games, including the new By Jingo There Goes My Pink Flamingo from Gideon Reeling; and a bit of Werewolf after the scheduled games were over, for anyone yearning for treachery.

All night, unlimited players.
