Sandpit #7

Tagging the Stag by Frank Boyd, taken at last year’s London Games Fringe.
It’s time for Sandpit #7! On Wednesday 29 October 2008, we’ll be playing games at 01zero-one in Soho, from 6.30pm to 10pm.
This month, as part of the London Games Festival Fringe, Sandpit and Baron Munchausen present an evening of games, stories and story-games. Hear competitive tales of rollicking adventure and then make some up yourself, in “The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen”; scurry through the streets of Soho, avoiding the evil that could lurk behind any corner, in “Night of the Vampire”; listen to mp3s with two other players, in “Earpiece”; and more.
The games currently scheduled are listed below, and we’ll be adding more over the next week. Entry is free, and there’s no need to book; just turn up on the night ready to play.
I’m Standing Here
Spot the Soho location based on an mp3 description.
From 6.30pm, repeated occasionally during the night.
Bogeyman Bagsnatch
A capture-the-flag game from Sheer Lunacy.
Runs occasionally throughout the night. 10 or so players/game.
The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Special Celebrity Adventurer Demonstration Game.
This month marks the reissue of “The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen”, reprinted in a facsimile edition of the original 1808 game (or so we’re told, very convincingly). To celebrate, James Wallis, distant descendent of the original publisher, has gathered together a special panel of adventurers, swashbucklers and, er, game developers. Through their competitive story-telling and well-timed interruptions, the adventurers will launch the game anew and find out which of them truly
has had the most extraordinary adventures.
7 to 8pm. 5 players plus audience.
Mr Smith
We’ve played chase games in Soho before — but this is the first time the quarry’s been able to teleport. Can you hunt him down before he disappears?
8 to 9pm. 30 players.
Privacy Is Dead
Can the people that hold your data really be trusted? Find out in this game of personal secrets and traded intelligence.
8:30 to 9pm. 10 players.
The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Non-Professional Adventurer Variety
As the professional adventurers head back to their helicopters, zeppelins and underground tunnels — or possibly the bar — the game will run again, this time with the players drawn from everyone who watched the first game and wants a chance to play.
8 to 9pm. 5 players.
Night of the Vampire
Sneak around the streets of Soho, trying to gather everything you need to to survive during this long, long night… of the VAMPIRE.
OR:
Those smug humans think they own the streets, but you know better. Infiltrate their little “groups”, pretend to be their “friend”, lull them and soothe them until they think they’re safe. You’ll know when to strike.
9pm to 9.45pm. 20 players.
Surpass the Parcel
The parcel moves by its own rules, and they change every time a layer comes off. Prod it or squeeze it, carry it around for a while, follow the rules when you pass it on, and listen out for the Unwrapping Bell.
All night. Unlimited players.
